HumBug – An Acoustic Mosquito Monitoring Tool for use on budget smartphones

چکیده

Mosquito surveys are time-consuming, expensive and can provide a biased spatial sample of occurrence data—the data often representing the location surveys, not mosquitoes. We present HumBug project, an acoustic system that turn any Android smartphone into mosquito sensor. Our sensor has potential to significantly increase quantity as well access locations more difficult survey by traditional means. describe our database wild-captured fight tone audio outline detection algorithms these train. also MozzWear App, designed work on budget smartphones, which, together with Net (an adapted bednet), facilitates collection allows user record directly upload flight tones from dwelling bednet in field. vastly understanding distribution species space time greatly improve needed assess success or failure ongoing vector control measures. At when WHO reports plateauing decade-long decline malaria mortality rates, this new technological solution for surveying vectors will timely resource.

An Exposure-Free Tool for Monitoring Adult Malaria Mosquito Populations

Catches of Anopheles gambiae and An. arabiensis with the Ifakara Tent Trap-model B (ITT-B) correlate better with human landing catches than any other method but fail to reduce the proportion of blood-fed mosquito caught, which indicates that users are exposed to bites during collection. An improved C model (ITT-C) was developed and evaluated by comparing with ITT-B in semi-field and full-field ...

Smartphones : An Emerging Tool for Social Scientists

Recent developments in mobile technologies have produced a new kind of device: a programmable mobile phone, the smartphone. In this paper we argue that the technological and social characteristics of this device make it a useful tool in social sciences, particularly sociology, social psychology, urban studies, technology assessment and media studies. The device is willingly carried by a large f...

Online Tool Wear Monitoring Tool Wear Monitoring Using Acoustic Emission

This research work highlights the effects of acoustic emission (AE) signals emitted during the milling of H13 tool steel as an important parameter in the identification of tool wear. These generated AE signals provide information on the chip formation, wear, fracture and general deformation. Furthermore, it is aimed at implementing an online monitoring system for machine tools, using a sensor f...

Disposable single-use electrochemical sensor: A novel hollow fiber based tool for environmental monitoring of cadmium

The objective of this study is to design a simple, fast, sensitive and single-use electrode with the simultaneous capability of preconcentration and measuring, for application in a three-electrode voltammetry system to identify and measure the heavy metal cadmium. The design process of this sensor consists of several stages. The polyurethane foam and multi walled carbon nanotubes nanoparticles ...

Monitoring smartphones for anomaly detection

In this paper we demonstrate how to monitor a smartphone running Symbian operating system and Windows Mobile in order to extract features for anomaly detection. These features are sent to a remote server because running a complex intrusion detection system (IDS) on this kind of mobile device still is not feasible due to capability and hardware limitations. We give examples on how to compute rel...
